For a movie with an 1h42m runtime, this is a ludicrous level of detail. It also used more than 100,000 frames of entirely hand-drawn animation, which is some insane dedication to craft. We've got plenty of serious racing simulators, now I'm ready for the anime arcade racer. Literally - it had a cool 30 million dollar budget, and spent roughly eight years in production before it was released. it a budget far larger than any show with the concept has the right to have. The series has already been inspired by Fast and Furious, so it's about time it borrowed from another medium. So this is a movie I saw brought up from time to time as an anime that is. I hope it means the next Need For Speed Will draw upon the successes of Heat and go brighter, bolder, and more outlandish. ‘Anime elements’ could mean almost anything, that's why I'm so excited.
